SHEA Shea, photographed at Abington Place, Newmarket, on Wednesday, with work rider Phil Shea.
Shea Shea is reported to be fit and well for Friday’s Gr1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes over 1000m at York and assistant trainer Steven Jell commented: “I’d say he looks even better than before his last start in the July Cup. Frankie Dettori worked him last week and popped in this morning to see how his mount was doing.
“The track is flat and fast and that will suit Shea Shea. We’re drawn 5 with a lot of speed around us.”
ADDED: Mike de Kock commented on Thursday: “I’m happy with Shea Shea and we’re all holding thumbs to finally win a Gr1 race in the UK, we’ve come close. He’s not an easy ride though, he’s a difficult customer and it takes time to get to know him. Frankie Dettori has ridden Shea Shea in work once, I’m hoping that will prove to be enough. Fortunately we’re talking about Frankie here, he’s a legend, he’s fired up and excited about the race and Shea Shea couldn’t be in more capable hands.”
The race is scheduled for 16.40pm (SA time) on Friday afternoon and will be shown live on Tellytrack.

Molly Malone!
No doubt Mike and company will welcome your presence. Good on you.
Well today is the Big day for Shea Shea. I cant believe my wishes are finally coming true with Frankie Dettori on board this very talented horse!. I’m speechless. The choice of race is absolutely perfect and the track conditions should be ideal. Being drawn 5 today should help big time. Hopefully Shea Shea will settle well in behind the early pace makers and save its class for the final few furlongs. No words can explain my excitement for today:) Good luck to the De Kock team and all connections. I will be screaming Shea Shea home no doubt.
Another great run from Shea Shea . Winning a Group 1 race in the UK / Ireland is a lot harder than everyone thinks . Given the horses MDK has to try and achieve that with I think he has done extremely well !! Well done Mike and your team , you can be proud of what you did today!!
