WELL-performed Kavanagh makes his return to the racetrack in a Listed Sprint over 1200m at Newmarket’s July course on Saturday. Pat Cosgrave has the ride.
The seven-time winning son of Tiger Ridge has been rested since 19 May this year, when he finished a close fifth in the Gr1 Kranji Sprint in Singapore.
The striking photo was taken at Abington stables and submitted by assistant trainer Steven Jell.
Cosgrave will also swing a leg over a stable first-timer named Moonfaarid, owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum. He’s a colt by Dubawi from a Galileo mare and steps out in Race 1, a Maiden Stakes over 1200m.
Mike de Kock commented: “Kavanagh comes off a three month rest, but he’s in good shape and normally races well fresh. He must have a winning chance back in Listed company. Moonfaarid is a promising young horse, he’s one you can watch for good progress as his career develops. He debuts over six furlongs and he definitely needs more ground, but I think he’s talented enough to finish somewhere in the money, sprinting first time out, so don’t discard him.”
