Mike de Kock said that three-year-old Immediate Edge is still a bit laid back and perhaps too soft for the Autumn Classics, but he’s excited about the future for the son of Vercingetorix.
Immediate Edge stepped from a Maiden Plate over 1600m into a MR80 Handicap over 2000m with some ease – he won convincingly at Turffontein’s inside track on Thursday – and is certainly one for the notebook.
“I was pretty confident today. He’s a proper horse at home. We’ll take him through the divisions, and it’s important to keep him healthy. He’s an exciting horse with a good pedigree.”
Jockey Ryan Munger agreed that Immediate Edge is a horse to watch and commented: “He was green first time out, but did a lot right today. He showed natural improvement between runs. It’s fantastic to be on horses like this!”
The blood is all there: Immediate Edge was bred from the Commands mare Anhaar, who is a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner and sire, Soqrat, who was also trained by Mike and Mathew de Kock. He races for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Al Adiyaat South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Wilgerbosdrift (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mrs Mary Slack), Chris Haynes and Mike de Kock.
