Dynasty’s daughter Sea Anemone stepped up to the plate at Turffontein on Saturday to beat a small but tidy field of rivals in a MR89 Handicap over 1600m.
Jockey JP van der Merwe found himself in front after the original pacemaker had run off the track, near the bend, but at that point it suited him. Sea Anemone dictated and then found extra under pressure to win a good race from challenger Strange Magic. Cape Lights took third.
Mike de Kock commented: “As noted in my preview, things didn’t go Sea Anemone’s way last time. She is progressive and actually ran above her rating when Stuart Pettigrew’s smart filly Callmewhenuneedme beat us into second last month. She is capable of winning a few more races.”
Van der Merwe suggested that Sea Anemone won easier than the margin suggested. “She pricked her ears and did it very easy in front,” he said.
Sea Anemone is a full-sister to former Champion Sprinter Alboran Sea. She races for Mary Slack.
