Mike Destombes has been a staunch patron of the stable since the great days of his champions Bold Ellinore and Emperor Napoleon. We were very pleased to saddle a double for him this week, and glad to see him smiling from ear to ear in the winner’s enclosure.
Destombes said that he was winding down his breeding interests, with just a few mares still based at Summerhill, including Blonde Princess (Legally Blonde female line). He has five in training with Mike de Kock and it sounds like his racing interest has been rekindled following the smart win by Blonde Princess’ two-year-old daughter Platina Princess (Danon Platina), who toyed with the opposition in a Maiden Plate over 1450m at Turffontein Tuesday.
Platina Princess, promises more!~
“Mike reckons Platina Princess will go well over more ground and she certainly looks promising,” said Destombes.
Bold Ellinore’s daughter Bold Act (Act Of War) has always had a bit of class about her, but she was under-achieving up to 1400m for a while. The decision to bring her back to the minimum sprint on Saturday paid off, however. She raced right on the clip under Craig Zackey and drew away under top weight.
“Looks like we’ve been going too far with her,” said Mike de Kock, who was chuffed with Bold Act’s run.
