Mike de Kock was worried that Forever Mine’s 14-14 draw would be a mountain to climb in a competitive handicap over 1500m at Turffontein on Saturday, even for this hard-galloping five-year-old, but he rose to the occasion again with an impressive front-running display. He took charge of the race immediately and ran strongly throughout to win.
Mike commented: “It was always going to be a tough task from that draw but JP van der Merwe got the fractions right up front, a good ride from him. Forever Mine is a course specialist and he likes the ground on top. He has a high cruising speed which plays in his favour here. Whether he can sustain that after rain or on soft ground I don’t know. He is a deceptively good horse, but things have to go his way.”
Forever Mine is a Mauritzfontein-bred by Vercingetorix out of Amazing Grace. He runs for Jessica and Steven Jell, Johnny Geroudis, Wayne Jackson and Mark Campbell.
