4Racing’s roadmap for techinical improvements
December 19, 2021Veteran handler Thomas Ncume has missed the last few Dubai seasons due to our smaller strings (he’s as well known in racing circles there as Christophe Soumillon!) – but back home he remains a big stable asset as stable employee and work rider.
Thomas rode a perfect waiting race on Imperious Light (Gimmethegreenlight), Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s three-year-old gelding who came into a Maiden Plate at the Vaal with moderate form, but enjoyed the 2400m he attempted for the first time.
Thomas allowed Imperious Light to gallop easily in his hands, off the pace, and they had most in the tank over the last 400m. Imperious Light moved up to lead 300m out, fought off a challenge from Indian War Dance and strode away to win well.
“This horse has a stayer’s pedigree and actually showed us at home that he’s an out-and-out stayer, the further the better. He beat weak opposition, but with his stamina I don’t think he’ll stop here,” Mike de Kock assessed.
