THE partnership of Mathew de Kock and Robbie Griffiths enjoyed an excellent first ten days, with three winners in the bag and also a sixth in the Gr1 Derby over 2,500m with $100-1 shot Token Spirit (Tavistock), beaten only 2.5-lengths by Johnny Get Angry.
“I am very excited about our early success, and having a sixth place in the Derby on Melbourne Cup Carnival Day at Flemington was fantastic,” said Mat on Sunday, adding: “It’s onwards and upwards from here!”
Punters.com,au reported on the Traralgon Racecourse winner, Lady D’Oro (Medaglia D’Oro): “What a tough victory it was recorded by Lady D’Oro in the final event at Traralgon on Saturday, the gutsy mare always wide from an outside gate – but still always travelling well for Matthew Allen.
‘It was a terrific win, one that really showed her class,” Robbie Griffiths enthused.
“She had to travel wide throughout but once she straightened up she was never in any doubt.”
“There looks to be better things in store for her this preparation.”
It was the second win from just nine starts for Lady D’Oro who was having her first run since late May – racing well despite not always having the best of luck last time in.
