GIN Fizz was everyone’s best bet of the day at Turffontein on Saturday – some thought her starting odds of 5-10 were generous and she didn’t disappoint.
The three-year-old filly by Soft Falling Rain came into this Graduation Plate over 1450m on a 110 rating, and with a handy weight and Mike de Kock said after the race: “She was highly rated as a one-time winner. We needed this race to get some confidence about her, so that she could learn to win. This was more of an exercise to get her confidence up.
“She had a hard race last time and this looked like an easier picking for her, it was the right race on her rating.
“We’re toying with going a mile with her, but she is quite quick and that means there is always going to be a question mark. If she gets 1600m she will be a helluva runner where she competes. We rate her, but her style of racing suggests it will be tough for her to get a mile.”
Gin Fizz was bred by Wilgerbosdrift/Mauritzfontein, a daughter of Graded winner Espumanti, and races for Mary Slack.
