MIKE de Kock’s smart imported filly Cascapedia (IRE), will be lining up in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m at Turffontein’s inside track on Sunday. This is the second run in her preparation for the 2018 Vodacom Durban July in which she is De Kock’s only qualifier on the Top 20 log so far.
Mathew de Kock said this morning: “Cascapedia just needed her last run, she came back in the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes and ran well after a rest, beaten just seven lengths. She’s come on from that, she is well in at the weights and we expect her to be competitive.”
A winner of five of her seven career starts, Cascapedia was beaten into fourth in her only start at this track last October, but as Mike de Kock likes to point out, the imported runners get better with maturity and it will be interesting to see how Cascapedia goes on Sunday.
Betting World has Cascapedia priced up at 18-1 for the Durban July, which will shorten if she wins.

Ask Mike De Kock why he Scratched Takingthepeace. She only Lost by 2.75 Lengths, and he says Cascapedia lost by 7 Lengths. Not even in a competitive Race. Does he know what will happen in the July.
Regarding Riaan,
This filly was coming back from illness which by my understanding wasn’t mild. Secondly, Takingthepeace ran against other 3YO FILLIES. After the heavy ordeal of the triple tiara and having to take on older horses in open company, not a lot of upsides to running her in the July.
Dear Riaan,
First of all, they weren’t in the same race so consider your facts. Takingthepeace was beaten 2.75 in the SA Oaks, Cascapedia was beaten 7 in the (very competitive) Gr1 Empress Club Stakes. You start off by comparing apples to pears in a surprisingly aggressive way like you did on the Sporting Post forum.
Have you considered that Takingthepeace has just ended a very tough Triple Crown Campaign and that she needs a well-deserved rest being a young filly?
Cascapedia was ill just before she was due to run in the Met and we had to scratch her – she has started a build-up to her next target, the Durban July, and we hope all goes well into the big race. She is our July filly and not Takingthepeace.
