October 28, 2015Mile Day runner preview
October 30, 2015TORO Rosso has been priced up as the 4-1 favourite to win Saturday’s R1-million Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile at Turffontein, reports JACK MILNER of The Citizen’s Racing Express.
The Mike de Kock-trained colt has run seven times for four wins and three places and is one of those runners who is equally able to win on both turf and sand. The four-year-old son of Elusive Quality has a lot going for him as he is drawn No 1 and has Anthony Delpech in the irons.
De Kock has three runners in the Grade 2 race over 1600m on the standside track and the other two are very interesting. Mitraad (headline photo) has only run five times but he has won four and his only defeat was a one-length second behind Zambezi River over 1160m at this track.
Sadly, the Australian-bred has to overcome No 15 draw and that will be a tough ask for jockey Randall Simons.
Flying The Flag has won a graded event in Ireland and a race in Dubai but has not raced since March and could be in need of a run. He is reputed to have loads of talent but is being aimed at next month’s Sansui Summer Cup.
Alec Laird saddles last year’s winner Bezanova as well as Bouclette Top who is joint second favourite at 8-1 along with Deputy Jud, trained by Mike Azzie.
Champion trainer Sean Tarry saddles two-time Grade 1 winner French Navy, who is at 10-1, as well as Whiteline Fever (12-1) and Outsider Halve The Deficit
