LOUIS The King has drawn plenty of betting support and now tops the boards for Saturday’s Vodacom Durban July at Greyville.

The SASCOC Triple Crown champion has shortened from 5-1 to around 33-10 with fellow three-year-olds Legislate (5-1),  Futura  (7-1) and Rake’s Chestnut (8-1) next favoured.

Quoted generally between 9-1 and 10-1, Mike de Kock’s Espumanti is presently the lowest-piced older horse.

Alboran Sea: An unbeaten Gr1 winner with plenty of scope.

Betting has also opened for the balance of the card and Beach Beauty has been priced up at 11-20 to win the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes over 1600m for the second successive year.

Last year she was poorly drawn at No 15 and still beat Espumanti by 1.25 lengths. Although a year older the Dennis Drier-trained mare has not lost her zest for racing and from barrier No 4 will be a popular banker on the day.

The bookmakers appear to feel the Zulu Kingdom Golden Slipper for two-year-old fillies over 1400m is a two-horse race between the De Kock stable’s Alboran Sea and Carry On Alice. The former won the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville by 2.25 lengths while Carry On Alice was runner-up in the Gold Medallion.

However, Alboran Sea is drawn No 1 while Carry On Alice will have to jump from barrier No 11.

Unbeaten Afrikaburn has been priced up 5-2 favourite to win the Durban Golden Horseshoe. He is highly regarded by the Dean Kannemeyer yard and has the advantage of having won over the course and distance.

Guiness, who beat Carry On Alice in the Gold Medallion, is next best at 9-2 with third-placed One Fine Day at 5-1.
