Mike and Mathew de Kock, in conjunction with Form Bloodstock, bought two yearling colts by champion stallion, Gimmethegreenlight, at the 2025 Cape Racing Sales Premier Auction at Kenilworth on Thursday. They are available for share syndication.
Mike said that both colts (Lot 111 and Lot 152) are physically exceptional specimens with stallions’ pedigrees and that he and Mathew were excited as both were on their shortlist of potential buys on this strong sale.
Lot 111 is Wood Green (photo above), bred by Varsfontein Stud. He is by Gimmethegreenlight out of Winter Wood (Western Winter), who has already produced a stakes winner from only three runners. He is a half-brother to Mercantour from the close family of Graded winners Royal Vintage, Alderry, Al Saheem and others. See his pedigree here.
Lot 152 is Exposure, who was raised at Avontuur Stud. He is by Gimmethegreenlight out of Dream De Ra (Oasis Dream), who has already thrown three smart winners from as many runners. Dream De Ra is a half-sister to Miss Frankel (Frankel), from the tremendous family of champion sprinters, Val de Ra and Tevez. See his pedigree here.

Mike said: “We’d like to hear from clients interested in taking shares of the two colts. They both tick all the boxes, this is a terrific opportunity to get involved in two potentially top runners with great pedigrees.”
Individuals interested in joining the De Kock team can phone Mat direct on (+27) (0)82 803 1288 or mail mathew@dekockracing.com
Also joining the stable will be two fillies Lot 78, Miss Ironside (Vercingetorix) and Lot 122 Apparition (Gimmethegreenlight), who will race for Laurence Wernars and partners.
Justin Vermaak of Cape Racing commented: “We averaged R761, 679 per foal, which is a South African record. We had diverse buyers at the top end, and the sale yielded an aggregate of R104, 350,000. We decided to keep our January sale during Met week as a boutique auction for early, precocious runners and then build on the March Premier Sale for the classic, knockout horses”.
“The Premier Sale will be marketed separately and the Day One Figures will apply. Day Two is our old farm and winter sale, which won’t be individually staged anymore. We won’t be combining the figures of Day 2 with the figures of Day One. I think we did well by splitting the January and March auctions. We are very pleased with our results.”
