Weekend runner comments
May 18, 2024Nation’s Call, a son of Frankel who joined Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock at Cranbourne last year, won at his second attempt in Australia when taking a Class 1 Handicap over 1600m at Pakenham on Thursday.
Nation’s Call raced mostly in the hands of Blake Shinn and won decisively. Shinn said: “He’s a free-running sort with lots of beans. I was impressed with the way he galloped through the line. He should win more races.”
Originally trained by Dermot Weld in Ireland, Nation’s Call won a race and was placed seven times. Nation’s Call was bought by Mike de Kock and Larry Nestadt and Mike noted: “He was recommended for purchase by Ted Durcan via Jehan Malherbe, and we syndicated him. We have a strong worldwide network and we’re striving for excellence.”
Mat commented: “Nation’s Call seems to have a high cruising speed, but he still has a lot to learn. It’s nice to get this win on the board. Well done and thanks to his owners.”
