Friday’s was the first twilight meeting in several years at Turffontein. It was well supported and attended, and the stable had a double in the light and one in the night, to cap a nice day.
Littlemarysunshine (Silvano) was impressive in drawing away from a small, competitive field of rivals in a MR90 Handicap, 1800m. She got away from them 300m out, big weight notwithstanding, and won by 3.25-lengths.

Jockey Gavin Lerena said: “She looked a picture today. It was a pedestrian pace so I had to go early. She was perfectly prepped in this third run after a rest.”
Assistant trainer David Hlamini thanked the ASSM Syndicate, who own Littlemarysunshine, and said: “Mr Chada and Mr Rippon put their money down, it’s good to have had two winners for them this week.”
Mike noted that he felt Women Of Power was his best runner at the meeting – she was backed from 4s to 3-1 and obliged in Race 7 over 1000m in the hands of JP van der Merwe, who said: “She dug down when I asked her, won well.”
Mike commented after the race: “Woman Of Power comes from a fast family and I think where she is at now, she is a 1000m filly.”
