The professional way in which she took the more experienced form filly Alesia’s Love to task and disposed of her in her 1450m debut, says a lot about Gimme A Nother and her prospects.
While Gimme A Nother didn’t post the fastest time for the distance on the day, the programme was filled with high quality 1450m features and it won’t be fair to assess her time clocked against the likes of Feather Boa and Main Defender.
It is fair to say, however, that Gimme A Nother is a progressive filly that will make a lot of improvement – one to be watched this summer.
Mike de Kock said: “She comes from a very good family of fillies and she’s been doing a lot right at home, so we are pleased with this debut. Gimme A Nother has a bit of spirit, like her mother and grandmother. It’s nice to see something there.”
Jockey JP van der Merwe confirmed: “She gave me a good feel and won convincingly.”
Gimme A Nother is by Gimmethegreenlight and, like her accomplished dam, Nother Russia, races for Mauritzfontein’s Jessica Jell in the famous Oppenheimer silks. As Mike noted, this is a family dear to Jessica’s heart and while she was unable to make it to the track this time, Jessica watched the race and was delighted.
Jessica said: “Nother Russia is one of the happiest and most special horses in my life. Having her daughter to be excited about too, is like a dream. I feel very lucky.”
