MIKE de Kock and partners Michael Holding and Jehan Malherbe own a South African-bred making its debut in Race 3 over 1200m at Lingfield, UK, on Sunday. The race is off at 14:35 (SA Time).
His name is I Am The Secret, a grey gelding by Captain Al From Secret Of Victoria, and he was originally sold for R1,8-million to the Hong Kong Jockey Club at the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
I Am The Secret suffered a knee chip and didn’t make it to Hong Kong. He was placed on a Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale last February and Malherbe told: “We were at the Sun Met in the company of Mike Holding, the legendary cricketer, when this sale was on, so we decided to form a partnership to buy this horse. We have known Mike Holding for a while from sales and racing in the UK. I Am The Secret will race in the De Kock silks, white with the red maltese cross.”
Leading owner Mary Slack also has a runner abroad on Sunday. She is Blue Cabochon, a filly by Holy Roman Emperor from Holly Blue (Bluebird), a half-sister to South Africa stakes winner Gibraltar Blue. Blue Cabochon (Rce 1, Dundalk, 15.30) has placed in two handicaps, drops to a Maiden and looks to have an outstanding chance. She is trained by Fozzy Stack.
Both the Lingield and Dundalk meetings will be televised on Tellytrack.
