LIGHTLY-raced Captain Al filly Alileo bounced back to winning form at Turffontein on Saturday, winning a MR81 Handicap over 1400m from late challenger Dame Kelly and La Roquette.

Alileo had been rested a few weeks after taking on stronger in the Highveld Summer season and she ran on strongly under top weight to promise a few more wins to come.

Alileo, kept giving.

Muzi Yeni, who rode her for the second time, commented: “She had an undeniable chance on her run to Heaps Of Fun. Piere Strydom has caught me twice slowing down the fractions, but not today.

“I wanted to sit longer, but Aileo wanted to go. She showed guts, she changed legs and gave me more. This was a courageous run.”

Alileo was bred from the stakes-winning Galileo-mare Sidera and she has the ability to earn black type for Bernard Kantor and partners.

Awfaa, turn of foot.

Earlier, Sheikh Hamdan’s filly Awfaa won her Maiden over 1600m in easy style. She really sliced through her field well when asked for an effort by Craig Zackey and while she’ll have to step up to stronger, the daughter of Silvano gave an indication that she won’t retire with just a single win behind her name.

The pair of winners was saddled by Clayton Matthee, assistant trainer.
