DIVAN Neethling has joined Mike de Kock as a work rider in Dubai for the 2018 Carnival, writes WARREN LENFERNA.
Divan left the South African Jockey Academy and worked as a jockey and work rider for KZN’S Champion trainer Duncan Howells in Ashburton.
Howells, a hard task master, was so impressed with Divan’s work ethic and good manners that he offered him afternoon shifts at the stables as well in helping his assistant, James Rich.
Divan was employed by the Howells stable for over a year and then the opportunity came to Dubai to work for Mike De Kock. He took the opportunity so as to learn and broaden his horizons.
“I am enjoying every second and I am very grateful for the opportunity,” he said last week.
“I like to give chances to different jockeys every year. They work in the yard and assist on race days,” said Mike.
