THE stable is off the mark in the new racing season with three-year-old colt Alwahsh (NZ), who came out with all cylinders firing in a Maiden Plate over 1160m at Turffontein, Sunday.
Callan Murray had an easy ride as Alwahsh raced away to win by three lengths, and he said: “I am thrilled to be back in the winner’s box for Mike de Kock and Sheikh Hamdan. Alwahsh romped home!”
Mike commented: “Alwahsh is by Sepoy from a mare by O’Reilly so he’s bred for much further. That he shows good pace this early is always a plus. He looks like a sprinting type, he’s a bulky horse. I’ll reserve comment for now, we need to test him in better company.”
