FOUR-year-old gelding Seven Single is at his most effective over 1800m on Turffontein’s inside track, and the stable found the right handicap for him again on Tuesday.
Both Seven Single’s previous wins have come over this track and trip with a claiming apprentice on board – the extent of his improvement was evident as he raced under top weight in a MR78 this time – and won in his most impressive fashion to date.
Anthony Delpech had Seven Single placed just off the pace – where he likes to be, and he quickened nicely going through the 300m mark to put his rivals away instantly, indicating that he’s one who may go through the divisions now.
Stablemate Gain Ground made a chase of it – she was off the bit early but she stayed on strongly against her male rivals and showed that she, too, is improving with racing and likely to pick up her second career win soon, perhaps over slightly more ground.
Seven Single is an Arc En Ciel bred by Seventh Rock and he’s earned R270,000 in 13 starts for Markus and Ingrid Jooste – not their best in training of course, but a decent handicapper that pays his way and is not done for yet.
