“BOLD Silvano is doing the job,” said Mike de Kock of the Ascot Stud stallion after Bold Rex had posted his second win from three starts at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon, winning over 1600m on the Classic track.
Mike and partners Gary Grant, Chris Haynes, JJ van der Linden and Noeline Malherbe paid R160,000 for Bold Rex at the 2015 TBA National Yearling Sale – a price you’re unlikely to see about the promising new stallion’s progeny going forward – and he’s not far off a full ROI having earned R112,000 after his first few runs.
Bold Rex, drew away to win over a mile.
“Bold Silvano produced some very nice horses from limited opportunities in his first crop and we’ve acquired more,” Mike added about the horse he saddled to win the 2010 Vodacom Durban July. “Bold Rex won his sprinting debut by almost four lengths and then went into a stronger sprint at Scottsville where he was beaten by House Guards who looks like a good horse.
“When Anthony Delpech got off Bold Rex that day he remarked that the colt will need a mile and more to show his best, so this was a reflection of what we expected. Bold Rex is a horse with a future.”
Bold Rex seemed to be “all over them” fully 500m out and jockey Weichong Marwing could’ve pushed the button on two or three occasions, but he bided his time and let his mount go at the 200m pole. Bold Rex drew away to win by 1.75 lengths.
