SEVEN Single is unlikely to go to the top of the charts, but he’s a type that improves with racing. He followed up on his Maiden win with a smooth success in a MR79 Handicap over 1800m at Turffontein on Saturday.

“It helped that Seven Single  came out of his Maiden with a 70 rating, he has more scope so that was a competitive rating to race from, first time in a handicap,” said Mathew de Kock.

“Also, Seven Single gets on well with apprentice Calvin Ngcobo, who rode a good race.  It looks like like he’ll  be effective up to 2000m,” added Mathew.

Ngcobo may well retain the ride as his mount’s rating has only been raised one further point to 71, which means the combination can be deadly effective again in a similar handicap soon.

Seven Single, by Seventh Rock from Blue Ballad, by Rakeen, is raced by Markus and Ingrid Jooste, enjoying their third winner with the stable within the week.
