THE first foals of former Durban July winner Bold Silvano have their sire’s good looks and they move well too.
Mike de Kock, who trained Bold Silvano in South Africa and Dubai, went to R160,000 to secure last Sunday’s debut winner Bold Rex at the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in 2015.
Gary Grant, Chris Haynes, JJ van der Linden and Noeline Malherbe shared Mike’s enthusiasm and formed a partnership of owners for the colt and Grant said: “Mike really liked Bold Rex at the sales. There was nobody around at the time, not much interest so he raised his hand and got it. Bold Rex may turn out to be a bargain!”
Bold Rex cruised in at Scottsville, winning by 3,50-lengths under Anton Marcus and since his trainer owns the lion’s share the two-year-old Ascot-bred raced in the familiar De Kock silks: White, with a red Croix Des Templiers Pattee and striped sleeves. Always good to see those colours in the winner’s enclosure.
