PERFUMED Lady was bred for speed and she’s doing everything required of her so far. Markus and Ingrid Jooste and Mike de Kock’s filly rallied well to post her third successive win for jockey Randall Simons at Turffontein on Tuesday night.
Perfumed Lady, a hat-trick on a hat-trick night.
Unbeaten so far, Perfumed Lady stopped the clock in a fast 56,68s. She downed a MR76 field by 1,75 lengths, significantly under joint top-weight of 60,5kg. Winning handicaps under big weights never come easy for three-year-olds at this stage of the season and assistant trainer Mathew de Kock commented: “She won well enough considering how tough it would have been under that weight.”
Mat said that Perfumed Lady wasn’t accepted to race in the recent Ready To Run Cup because the stable felt it wasn’t the right time to point her at the 1400m race. “She’s racing superbly well down the straight and we didn’t want to risk her coming out of the Cup badly. There are some feature sprints we can go for here at home and in Cape Town.”
Trees Of Green, strong finish.
Mat congratulated the Joostes and thanked them for their patience on their earlier winner, Trees Of Green (Dynasty), who chalked up his Maiden win with an eye-catching performance over 1600m.
Trees Of Green was drawn 12-12 and, dropped out to last for the first 1000m of the race, he came storming up, railside, to win like a ‘good thing’ for Marco van Rensburg.
Mat said: “Trees Of Green has had his problems and we rested him after his 1600m debut back in May. This win was quite impressive though, he has ability and we hope can go on from here, though we can’t push him too hard.”
Suyoof (AUS), scored a sizzling win for Sheikh Hamdan in a Maiden Plate over 1160m, starting at odds of 1-4, an indication of pre-race confidence. “He’s a quality horse, I guess he was a penalty kick here. We’re considering his next races, we’ll see what rating he gets from the handicapper.”
Suyoof’s sire Magic Albert (Zedative), topped the sire averages in the Session II 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. He has produced the winners of over $20-million in stakes. Suyoof himself was a $150,000 purchase.
Suyoof, smart sort.
