VODACOM Durban July winner Power King is among the 23 entries for the R400,000 Joburg Spring Challenge over 1450m on the Turffontein inside track on Saturday 3 October.
Also run on the day is the R400,000 Spring Fillies and Mares Challenge over the same course and distance. Both are Grade 2 events.
Another Western Cape-based trainer, Justin Snaith, has nominated Dynamic for this event. He has not drawn too well – at No 14 – but Snaith will probably be aiming him at the Grade 2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile on Saturday 31 October.
Mitraad, four-time winner.
Mike de Kock has entered five runners and the best has to be Mitraad, winner of four of his five races. His only defeat, in which he ran a one-length second, was at the hands of Zambezi River.
Mitraad’s last start was in a Pinnacle Stakes over this course and distance in which he ran clear early in the straight and held on easily to beat Jolie Roger by 1.40 lengths. He has drawn No 13.
De Kock’s other runners are Moofeed, Anjaal, Mootahadee and Toro Rosso.
Only 10 runners have been entered for the Joburg Spring Fillies and Mares Challenge but Kannemeyer has nominated Real Princess who should love this course and distance. KwaZulu-Natal-based trainer Dunca Howells has entered the well-performed Sabaha who is in top for currently.
Supplementary entries close at 9am on Friday 25 September with declarations by 10am on Tuesday 29 September.
