NEW milestones present themselves as others are reached and Mike de Kock is on the verge of a traditionally highly significant achievement for any trainer – 100 Gr1 winners.
We’ve updated Mike’s worldwide statistics and they show some interesting facts:
-To 22 December 2014, he has trained 2791 winners worldwide – 209 short of the 3000-winner mark, a terrific mark that could be achieved within a year if the stable’s historical momentum continues.
-To this date Mike has 99 Gr1 winners to his credit – this figure would have been over 100 if races like Dubai’s Gr1 Jebel Hatta was upgraded earlier – Mike won the race a few times when it had Gr2 status.
Gr1 Dubai World Cup photo finish 2010: Mike de Kock’s Lizard’s Desire (Kevin Shea, nearest camera), won it, but didn’t? That’s the marginal difference between benchmarks achieved and not achieved. Rest assured: There are more spine-tingling moments ahead!
-His winning percentage is near 17% – a winner from every 5.8 runners, and a win/place percentage of almost 65%, a nice figure for professional punters who are guaranteed a nice profit if they bet every De Kock runner eachway.
-Mike has won races in eight countries on four continents, including Gr1’s in Dubai, Hong Kong Kong and Singapore. Gr1 wins in the UK and the US remain elusive, but he’s gotten close a few times and with the up-and-coming bloodstock in the stable these milestones can’t be far off!
