September 18, 2014More ground, more wins
September 21, 2014FIFTY-six horses have been entered for the R2-million Sansui Summer Cup (Grade 1) over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 29 November.
Mike de Kock’s three entries include Sheikh Hamdan’s Anjaal (AUS), a one-time winning, three-year-old colt barely out of his nappies. A Merit 108 due to his Gr1 places as a two-year-old, Anjaal is rated just below Triple Crown winner Louis The King (109)! The stable doesn’t shy away from a challenge, however. Anjaal’s sire, Lonhro, a superstar in Australia, won eight Gr1’s as a three-year-old himself – it will be interesting to see how this offspring shapes in the next few months.
Highly-rated Anjaal, automatically in the deep end.
Louis The King has won six of his nine career starts and finished third behind Vodacom Durban July winner Legislate in the Daily News 2000. The Geoff Woodruff runner, along with No Worries, is the second top-rated runner on the list of entries – his year-older stablemate Tellina is rated a point superior to the four-year-old. He finished third behind Yorker and another horse Woodruff has entered, Master Sabina, in last year’s Summer Cup.
Woodruff has also entered Rake’s Chestnut, second to Legislate in the Daily News 2000, Killua Castle, a close-up fifth behind Yorker in this race last year, Lockheed Jetstar, who has won his last two starts and beat more highly regarded Rake’s Chestnut in his penultimate start, Cigar Boy, Sabadell, American Storm and classy filly Touch The Sky. Seven of them are among the 20 top-rated entries.
Vodacom Durban July winning trainer Justin Snaith has four horses entered, Astro News, Run For It, Dynamic and Arion, while Kom Naidoo-trained Charity Mile winner Royal Zulu Warrior has also been entered.

take his weight for allowance off and anjaal will be rated in the low 90s depending on which month of the year
