SHEIKH Hamdan of Dubai’s unbeaten Majmu was voted Champion Two-Year-Old Filly for the 2013/14 season at the Equus Awards banquet held at Emperors Palace on Wednesday night.

Rated 114 – the highest assessment for a two-year-old filly in SA racing history, Majmu won a Listed, Gr 3 and Gr2 feature on the trot, never extended. She had to be withdrawn from the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship at the end of May due to a virus and has been rested since.

The connections of Variety Club received a Special Achievement Award, also shared the Special International Achievement Award with Vercingetorix – both runners performed with distinction for Mike de Kock in Dubai and Hong Kong this year.

“Well done to Sheikh Hamdan for the Majmu award and congratulations also to Anton Shepherd, a small breeder who produced an international star in Variety Club,”commented Mike.

Other awards included Horse Of he Year (Legislate), Champion Sprinter (Via Africa) and Champion Jockey (S’Manga Khumalo).
