HERE are Mathew de Kock’s comments for the stable’s runners in various feature races on Classic Day at Turffontein, Saturday, compiled by JACK MILNER of Racing Express, who will carry more trainer reports in The Citizen on Friday.
R2-Million SA CLASSIC (Grade 1)
“Umgiyo is doing very well. He had a twisted testicle which really bothered him so gelding has made a big difference. He needed his last run badly and he ran much better than I thought he would. He’s a machine and we’re expecting a big run. Taarish is more of a Derby horse. He’s drawn in the bush again so if he runs a place, I’ll be happy.”
Taarish.
WILGERBOSDRIFT SA FILLIES CLASSIC
“Santa Carolina missed out on her prep run last time. She hated the soft going in the Fillies Guineas and she was probably a little unfit. She is better prepared for the Classic and should be more competitive. I was, nevertheless, a bit disappointed with the Guineas run. She sat next to Not Sulking and they both moved together but Not Sulking finished and Santa Carolina didn’t. She should be fine with the distance.”
Santa Carolina.
PRETTY POLLY STAKES
“Majmu should run a little less green this time. She’s been back to the pens and has been jumping okay. Last time she was jumping with horses who had raced before. She might be outpaced a little as she needs further. But she is very good.”

MAN O’ WAR SPRINT
“Moofeed Impressed me in his last start. He was well weighted and I still think he has a handy weight. We’re expecting another good performance from him.”
HORSE CHESTNUT STAKES
“Espumanti will need the run. This is a prep run for the Empress Club. Having said that, every month she gets older, she also gets better. She should be running at them.”
Espumanti.
GAUTENG JACARANDA HANDICAP
“Forgive No Forget doesn’t give away a lot at home. It’s her first race on the Highveld but she hasn’t done much wrong so far. She is fit and hopefully she can give a good account of herself.”
