IN an innovative twist at the International Jockey reception staged at Emperors Palace last Thursday, the exploits of racing luminaries Mike de Kock and jockey-turned-trainer Michael Roberts were heralded with the new “Legends of the Saddle” honour, conceptualised by the Racing Association.

Champion trainer De Kock and former great jockey “Muis” Roberts, who won the South African and UK jockeys titles in his career, are accomplished ambassadors for South African racing, having transcended their own exceptional achievements around the globe, through their willingness to share expertise and uplift fellow industry professionals.

The International Jockeys Challenge is set up in a similar spirit – the interaction between such a diverse cast of ace riders can only lead to positive exchanges.

“I am very humbled to have received this honour,” commented Mike, who attended the function with his family.
