OWNERS Mike and Norma Rattray of Lammerskraal Stud attended Friday evening’s meeting at Greyville to watch the expected duel between their fillies Izora and Path To Travel in a Novice Plate over 1600m.
Mike de Kock-trained Izora skated in by 6.75 lengths in a good time, Path To Travel (Allyson Wright) second. The runner-up was cramped for running room when Izora was already in full cry, but there is arguably no way she would’ve beaten Izora, who was in the mood as she galloped away impressively under Athony Delpech, who remarked: “This is one to follow!”
Either way, the Rattrays have two decent sorts on their hands and Mr Rattray said about Izora: “Her mother (multiple graded winner Icy Air), won a good contest here at Greyville one night. I was so impressed I went down to the winner’s box and made an offer to buy her for Lammerskraal, which was accepted by her former owners.”
Both Izora and Path To Travel are by Lammerskraal’s stalwart stallion Western Winter and Rattray said: “Western Winter is old, but not cold. You’ll see a few more of his runners later this season. We’re also looking forward to the forthcoming National Yearling Sale.
Lammerskraal will have four lots on offer at the Emperors Palace Sale, including two by Western Winter.
