EUROPA Point (photo, red cap) came away with three trophies from Saturday night’s Highveld Feature Season Awards ceremony.
Owned by Mary Slack and trained by Mike de Kock, the Irish-bred filly was named Champion Older Horse, Champion Middle Distance runner and Horse Of The Year – the most prestigious title of them all.
Europa Point was unbeaten during the season and captured two successive Grade 1 races: the L Jaffee Empress Club Stakes and the President’s Champions Challenge.
Overall, Mary Slack came away with six trophies as she also won for Ilha Bela (champion three-year-old filly), Gorongosa (champion stayer) and was named as champion owner.
The black tie affair was held in the Aquanaut room at Turffontein racecourse. It was a well-attended event and enjoyed a great vibe, good food, wine by Klawervlei and entertainment with comedian Chris Forrest.
