JET LEGEND (photo) accelerated smartly from off the pace to win the Gr 3 King’s Cup over 1600m at Greyville on Tuesday evening.
The four-year-old colt by Jet Master from Majestic Guest ran on too powerfully for Bay Route and Gold Onyx and drew away in the closing stages under Anthony Delpech.
Jet Legend drifted from 4-1 to 11-2 in the betting, perhaps due to his unplaced run at Turffontein a fortnight ago, but he was only beaten three lengths in that race and just had an off day. His record shows five wins from only 10 starts, classy by any standards.
Mike commented: “Jet Legend ran below his best last time, but we’re happy he cracked this Grade 3 race. He’s a full-brother to the champion JJ The Jet Plane and with a pedigree like that has stallion prospects. Well done to Sheikh Hamdan, who deserves all the success.”
Delpech said after the race: “The pace was on tonight and that’s the way he likes to race. He’s learning to race, putting it together. This was a nice win.”
Jet Legend was saddled by assistant trainer Nathan Kotzen, who collected the winning trophies on behalf of the connections.
