SMART four-year-old filly Worood wrapped her short, well-performed career with a convincing victory in the R125,000 Sandy Beach Stakes over 1200m on sand at the Vaal on Saturday, running on well in the hands of apprentice JP van der Merwe to beat her game rival Cotton Candy and ten others.
Worood made it four wins from 13 starts for owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and she will now be retired to stud.
Mike de Kock commented: “Worood is not the soundest of fillies so we’ve decided to retire her so she can be covered this season. She will go to Silvano first and her stud career will be handled by Jehan Malherbe of Form Bloodstock. She’s well bred, by Elusive Quality from a mare by Danzig and she looks a valuable broodmare prospect. She did well for us on track too despite her niggles.”
