THREE-year-old filly Eucalyptus, in her third racetrack appearance, raced away to a 4.25-length win in a Maiden Plate over 1900m at Greyville, handled by Anthony Delpech.
Eucalyptus has put a few niggles behind her and after two pipe-opening sprints was tried over the kind of trip that would match her top-class pedigree. As expected, the opposition didn’t even get to smell her!
Eucalyptus is by Fort Wood from the young and prolific mare Baby It’s You, which makes her a full-sister to 2010 KZN Oaks winner Sweetie Pie and a half-sister to stakes winner Treaj Pots (Rich Man’s Gold).
Her immediate family includes Graded performers Milk and Honey and Happy Valley, and Mike de Kock and part-owner/breeder Mary Slack will be hoping for big things to come from this impressive-looking dark bay filly.
“She didn’t beat much, of course,” commented Mike, “but she looks progressive and considering her pedigree she could be set for a nice career.”
