BOTH Kavanagh (red cap, inside), and Perana (pink cap, left), finished within 0.60 off the winner Solo Traveller in Saturday’s exciting BSA Guineas (R1 million) at Kenilworth.
Mike was disappointed that Kavanagh couldn’t hold on to win the race, he was once again caught late after quickening smartly and looking a winner 200m from the line. With both the stable’s runners performing so well, however, there is plenty to look forward to.
Mike said: “I think Kavanagh needs to mature a bit more, I believe in six months or so he’ll be an even better horse. He’s getting close to winning Grade 1s, next year his fortunes might well turn. It’s not a question of lack of guts, Kavanagh tries hard and just gets run out of every time. He will learn to go on with his effort, let’s look and see!
“Perana gave a solid account of himself, staying on strongly. He’s a top horse, it’s clear that he will come into his own over further, he’s a big prospect for 2011, a Durban July candidate if all goes well.”
Mike congratulated Lammerskraal Stud’s Mike Rattray and the Justin Snaith stable on their victory with Solo Traveller.
