GALILEO filly Igugu won her second race from as many starts when galloping to an impressive 4.50 length win in a 1400m MR68 Handicap at the Vaal on Thursday.
Jockey Randall Simons allowed her to gallop freely and dictate the pace. He said: “When I asked her for a kick there was lots to come. She won very well!”
Mike said Igugu would be aimed at the R1.5-million Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup over 1400m at Turffontein on Saturday 6 November. ”She’s got potential,’’ said De Kock. ”She qualifies for the Ready To Run Cup so it makes sense to run her in that race.
”Looking further ahead I would say her best distances are probably between a mile and 10 furlongs (1600m to 2000m). I would say the Guineas and SA Fillies Classic would probably be her target for next year.’’
Part-owner Andre Macdonald was excited and thanked the De Kock team for their efforts, but said he’s wait a while longer before making predictions.
