IT’s not just Greyville’s night lights that gives one the impression that two-year-old filly Ilha Grande (seen winning over 1300m on Friday) has hints of grey in her coat – she has indeed! The great Ilha Da Vitoria’s first foal, sired by Tiger Ridge was considered “almost grey“ as a yearling, according to Wilgerbosdrift Stud Manager John Everett.
He says: “I think Ilha Grande’s coat will turn greyer as she matures, though she has more substance and size than we expected from Ilha’s first foal. What pleases me is that Mike de Kock believes she will be best around 1800m – 2000m, like her mother. This is great for Tiger Ridge, it shows he can produce staying types alongsoide his good sprinters we’ve seen so far.”
Ilha Da Vitoria’s second foal, a grey yearling filly by Fort Wood, is roaming around the Wilgerbosdrift paddocks with a chestnut weanling colt by Tiger Ridge growing up not far from him. She is presently in foal again to Tiger Ridge.
