BOUQUET-GARNI kicked on strongly under Anthony Delpech to win the R1.5-million SA Derby over 2450m at Turffontein on Saturday, 25 April.
Bouquet-Garni was settled in midfield as See The Light set the pace from Broadsword and Fenerbahce and still had the call as the runners cornered into the home stretch.
Anthony Delpech gave Bouquet-Garni his head shortly afterwards and quickened impressively to stride past the leaders to take over at the head of affairs at around the 400m marker. He looked home and hosed and Delpech was allowing him to coast home before Magical took off out of the pack.
Bouquet-Garni responded gamely as Magical loomed up behind him and won going away.
”He was a very fit horse today and I rode him from off the pace, ” said Delpech.
