The stable enjoyed a super day at Turffontein on Saturday, bagging three winners – Marauding Horde (Race 5), Greaterix (Race 6) and Heather’s Boy (Race 9), all impressive. Details below, and pics by JC Photos:

RACE 5, MIDDLE STAKES 1800M
Winner: MARAUDING HORDE, 4bg Vercingetorix – My Lady Bluff by Indigo Magic
Owners: Messrs JF & LMF Wernars, Drakenstein Stud (Nom: Mrs GA Rupert), Lammerskraal Stud, Ridgemont(Nom: Craig Kieswetter), Wilgerbosdrift (Pty) Ltd & Devin Heffer
Breeders: Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd.
Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane
Matsunyane comments: “He is going to get better after being gelded. It was a comeback run, I was surprised, he gave me a nice kick.”
Mdk comments: “He needed his gelding badly, he’s always been a nice horse but he was a bit in-and-out. I was actually very impressed with the way he won today.”

RACE 6, MR96 HANDICAP, 1100M
Winner: GREATERIX, 3 gr c Vercingetorix – Semra by Jet Master
Owners: Al Adiyaat South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Messrs M F de Kock, C S Haynes, G Ragunan & Mrs N Malherbe
Breeders: Al Adiyaat (Sheik Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum)
Jockey: Muzi Yeni
Yeni comments: “He received weight from Pistol Pete, but this win was full of merit because it was too short for him. He moved very well, a classy sort. He has a bright future.”
Mdk comments: “He needed his gelding badly, he’s always been a nice horse but he was a bit in-and-out. I was actually very impressed with the way he won today.”

RACE 9, MR74 HANDICAP, 1600m
Winner: HEATHER’S BOY, 3 B c Rafeef (AUS) – Folk Dance by Tiger Ridge (USA)
Owners: Khaya Stables (Pty) Ltd
Breeders: Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein
Jockey: Craig Zackey
Zackey comments: “I got a good spot from his wide draw and he quickened. Bacchus got within a head of him at the 300m, but he kept rolling. He was gunning all the way to the line. He’s immature, the penny hasn’t dropped, but he’s a smart horse with an amazing action.”
Mdk comments: “I’m glad he got into a bit of fight today with Bacchus, who is obviously a nice horse too. He is quite unconscious, the penny hasn’t quite dropped with him.  The duel would have done him the world of good. I think there is significant improvement to come.”
