Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock has two carryover Jackpot ONE runners on the inside track at Turffontein on Saturday and he said that both have chances and have to be included.
Wolf Mountain (Race 6, 1450m) finished second against older runners last time and is in a similar contest. Mike commented: “That was a really good run after he had a break. His scope, I believe, is 1200m – 1450m and we have an inside draw which is always a factor at this track. He is fit and well within himself. His rating of 89 may be a bit high and at this time of year it’s hard for three-year-olds to win, but the opposition doesn’t look all that strong so he should be competitive.”
Three-year-old Oxalis Gold (Race 7, 1450m), is another who is up against older opposition, and she comes off a four-month rest. Mike said: “We gave her a nice rest through winter and she’s doing very well. She’s a filly I’ve always rated. She is not fully wound up yet, but, like Wolf Mountain, she is a runner you have to consider against the older competition.”
Earlier in the day, the stable will be hoping that Kingman’s daughter, Wearingforthegreen, can get into the starting stalls to race, after she had to be scratched from her debut last week. She’s in Race 1 over 1200m and Mike said: “As I said last week, she is a temperamental filly and she was spinning around on her way to the start week. She nicked herself, nothing serious, and had to be withdrawn. She has ability, if all goes well and she jumps, she can definitely finish in the money.”
Fireburst (Race 3, 1600m) is considered to have a winning chance and Mike assessed: “She was well beaten when we fancied her over 1450m last time, but she had excuses and is better than that. She became unbalanced on the bend, she ran through and I think she will enjoy the mile.”
Artist’s Model flies the flag for the stable at in Race 2 over 1600m on turf at Greyville on Sunday. Mike said: “He ran very well last time, as expected. I think he would have finished even closer if he was next to the winner, Actor, who won the race with a late charge on the other side of the track. If they were next to each other and got into a duel, we might have seen a different result. But this race looks ideal, we fancy him again.”
Ingqwele is entered for Race 8 over 1600m. He was gelded at the end of June and Mike said: “He has improved, he is a better horse after being gelded. The form of his last run behind Tobacconist looks good and he is well drawn. He will improve with this run behind him, but you can’t leave him out.”
