Feargall Sharkey sang, ‘A good heart is hard to find’ – otherwise known as ‘Song For Trainers’.
Sometimes ability or sheer talent can be second to heart, and Mike de Kock was very impressed with Run As One’s game performance in a handicap over 1800m at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Mike said: “Run As One may not be a Group horse, but he’s got a big heart, he’s a fighter and that alone is a standout characteristic in a horse. He fought back so well when he was headed by Oyster King in this race. He looked beaten but he kept on trying and then got the better of his older rival. Well done to Muzi Yeni, who rode a strong and purposeful race.”
Mike added: “A horse with heart winning a race like this gives me as much joy as winning a major race, I wish all horses had the guts of Run As One. He’s given us much pleasure so far and if the handicapper doesn’t end it for him with big penalties, he’ll win more.”
Run As One, by Gimmethegreenlight, races for Mike, Wayne Jackson and Clint Valjalo. He’s won three of eight starts, with three places.
