Mike’s Chick started deep in the red to win her Maiden over 1600m at Turffontein yesterday and she treated her rivals with some content, galloping armchair pilot Warren Kennedy home by 7,75-lengths.
“They’ll be asking, so this is how she was named,” Mike told. “Her owner, Lady Christine Laidlaw of Khaya Stables, is a keen animal lover. A few years ago she found out that I’d rescued some chickens and kept them at the stables in Dubai. So she decided on ‘Mike’s Chick’, and phoned my wife for permission.
“She’s a nice filly, improving and we hope to have more success with her going forward, Thanks to Lady Laidlaw for her support, a good patron for the yard and for SA racing.”
Mike’s Chick, bred by Hemel N Aarde, is by Vercingetorix from Strawberry Shortcake, by Dynasty.
