Exciting first win for Good Queen Bess (GB)

Newcomer Good Queen Bess (GB) made a thrilling 1160m debut at Turffontein on Saturday, galloping home 2.75-lengths clear and justifying 13/8 favouritism under Gavin Lerena.

Word was out on the imported daughter of Juddmonte’s classic-winning miler Kingman. Punters cottoned on, and were delighted.

“Good Queen Bess won smartly and we were suitably impressed,” noted Mike de Kock. “It didn’t look like there was much in the field, but she is five months behind the rest of them and she’ll be a filly to follow, she can run.”

Mike added: “She was bought at Goffs, where Mary Slack supported us well. So thanks again to Mary and the team of Jehan Malherbe, Jane Thomas, JJ van der Linden, Steven and Jessica Jell, Gill and Dennis Drier. Horse buying is a serious business but we have fun too and these have been the regulars on our Irish tours.”

Good Queen Bess was bred by Branton Court Stud.
