SOQRAT, favourite for the Grade 2 Dingaans at Turffontein on Saturday, has been scratched from the race.
The Mike de Kock stable withdrew the Australian import just after 9am on Wednesday due to an “elevated temperature”.
The three-year-old son of Epaulette, owned by Sheikh Hamdan, had been quoted at 14-10 by bookmakers – with second favourite National Park on offer at 18-10.
Three-time winner Soqrat has a Merit Rating of 114 and, at the level-weights of 60kg in the 1600m contest, was handicapped to win – though a No 12 draw would have been a disadvantage.
De Kock still has two runners in the Dingaans, Race 8 on Saturday’s card, in the form of Hawwaam and Atyaab – both also owned by Sheikh Hamdan. The former was quoted at 8-1 on Wednesday morning and the latter at 12-1.
