HIGH Chaparral’s son Condor Gulch (IRE) has looked like an out-and-out stayer, 2400m plus, and it was good to see him winning a MR73 Handicap over 1800m at the Vaal as he liked. This has opened new avenues for him.
Race caller Nico Kritsiotis spotted Randall Simons and Condor Gulch travelling with “a double handful” fully 600m out and he draw away to score by over six lengths.
“We’ve always thought of Condor Gulch as a classy type and his class came through here, we’d like to take a step up now,” said Mathew de Kock.
“Getting him to qualify for the Summer Cup will be a dream, but he’ll have to do more. We’ll aim him at the Java Handicap on Charity Mile Day.”
Condor Gulch was bred by Barronstown and races in Mary Slack’s familiar silks.
