THE regally bred Best Kept Secret proved the show stealer at Monday’s Super Sale presented by BloodStock SA, which took place at Greyville racecourse.
A daughter of champion sire Captain Al, the dual winning three-year-old was knocked down to original part-owner Maine Chance Farms for R2.2 million to top the sale.
Best Kept Secret is a full-sister to Equus Champion, and multiple G1 winner All Is Secret, whose wins included the G1 Mercury Sprint. The sales topper is also a sister to 2018 G1 Garden Province Stakes entrant, and multiple graded stakes winner The Secret Is Out, and recent G1 Allan Robertson Championship fourth-place getter Canukeepitsecret.
This regally bred filly is also very closely related to this season’s dual G1 winning filly Snowdance (by Captain Al), another with a Garden Province Stakes entry, and Guineas winner Secret Captain (by Captain Al).
Second top lot sold at the Super Sale was the hugely promising two-year-old colt Chimichuri Run, who was knocked down to original part-owner Rainbow Beach Trading for R1.6 million.
A son of champion sire Trippi and G1 SA Fillies Classic dead-heater Spiced Gold, Chimichuri Run, a winner second time out, was third in both the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion and G2 SA Nursery this season and he holds an entry in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe on Vodacom Durban July day.
In total, the 92 lots to sell on the sale grossed R14.175 million.
