VOGEL Vlei Stud, home to the record breaking Birch Bros family, will be represented by six quality lots at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
The stud will be offering lots by such prominent stallions as Captain Al, Duke Of Marmalade, Master Of My Fate, Noble Tune and Querari –and their draft is one any serious buyer must take strongly into consideration.
First of the Birch Bros’ draft to come up for sale is Fashion Chic (Lot 70), a filly by red hot sire Querari, whose notable runners include such leading 3yos as Wonderwall and Monks Hood. Fashion Chic, a half-sister to 3 winners, is out of a winning ¾ sister to Equus Champion Special Parade and to nine time stakes winner Solar Symbol.
She is bred on the same Querari/Model Man cross as multiple graded stakes winner Kangaroo Jack.
Believe Achieve (Lot 172) is the name of a colt by champion sire and eight times champion 2yo sire Captain Al. A ¾ brother to G3 Cape Classic winner Eighth Wonder, he is a half-brother to stakes winner Shady World and hails from the same family as legendary champion and increasingly influential broodmare sire Horse Chestnut. This colt is bred on the same Captain Al/Fort Wood cross as G1 winners Captain America and William Longsword.
Cartier Champion and proven G1 sire Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of Duchess Of Africa (Lot 332), a chestnut filly out of a five time winning daughter of leading broodmare sire Al Mufti (a close relation of Duke Of Marmalade). This filly’s dam is a half-sister to the dam of stakes winning millionaire Red Barrel and second dam is G3 winner Rhapsody In Red.
Querari has two in the draft with the former G1 winner is also responsible for Lamborngidi (Lot 441). This bay colt is out of a Sportsworld half-sister to G3 Langerman winner Steiger, who earned over R600 000 in prize money.
Master Of My Fate has made an outstanding start to his stud career and his son (Lot 503) is out of a ½ sister to G2 winner Winterinthewoods, from the family of G1 winners Highland Night and Warm White Night.
Breeders’ Cup runner up Noble Tune is another young sire to have made a pleasing impression with his first runners, and he is the sire of a filly (Lot 517) whose four time winning dam is a half-sister to G1 SA Derby/Daily News 2000 winner North By Northwest.
The Birch Bros, who won a staggering 40 Breeders’ Championships, have been behind the breeding of such legendary champions as Sea Cottage, Colorado King, and Wolf Power–to name but a few.
More recently the farm was responsible for the talented gelding Sniper Shot, a smart winner of the Fever Tree Stakes at Scottsville.
