WORK rider Chamu Mabaya rode two winners and a second for the stable on Thursday’s Work Rider’s Day at the Vaal, accumulating valuable points in the Work Riders Series.
Mabaya was right off the mark in the first on Trippi colt Mawsoof, a home bred owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum. He hacked up by near five lengths and Mike said: “He’s been showing promising work and it looks like he’ll go on from here.”
There are few things Diane de Kock enjoys more than winners in her own silks, not often enough seen but Rajasthani Queen was one to win for her on debut, which made it ever more exciting. Mabaya kept riding hard to get this Rosedene-bred filly home by a quarter from the favourite, Schippers.
“She’s by Grey’s Inn and that she shows this much pace is encouraging. She’s got some good relatives in her damline too. Well done to Di and Mat, they persisted with her through a few niggles.”
